My name is Jason Barron–I’m a nine time veteran of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race and life long
dog musher & outdoorsman–now turned author! My career has taken me and my fellow mushing
partner (and wife) Harmony Barron all over the country racing in endurance events from the tip
of Maine to the heart of interior Alaska, including back-to-back championships in Minnesota’s
John Beargrease Marathon 400 & Montana’s Race to the Sky 350.
I grew up in the bush of Alaska’s south-central region; this is where I learned to hunt, trap,
mush dogs, and generally get by in a harshly beautiful world where survival was never taken for
granted. My writing career deals with these themes of epic landscape, harrowing tales of
survival, and outdoor living.
I now live deep in the Rocky Mountains of north-western Montana with my amazingly talented
& beautiful wife, two wonderful children, and pack of loyal huskies
Harmony Barron grew up in the back woods of Northern California, and spent most of her teen
years in Oregon. When she was eighteen, she bought a one way ticket to Alaska, with one thing
on her mind- mushing dogs! She got a job as a dog handler for an Iditarod kennel, and it was that
first winter she completely fell in love with the mushing life style. She met Jason two years later,
and since then, the two of them have shared a life of adventure. Harmony has completed three
Iditarods; won Montana’s 2002 Race to the Sky; and has competed in many other mid-distance
sled dog races. Harmony’s other great passion in life, (besides raising her beautiful family) is
drawing and painting. She is a self educated artist, and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to
illustrate Jason’s first novel ‘Ballad of the Northland’. She is currently working on two
children’s picture books, along with many other projects.
